In Anticipation of Flying

I have to tell you that I have been looking forward to this trip; looking forward to listening to my special travelling mix on my iPod, to looking out my window, to catching my correct bus from Heathrow to Cambridge, &c.  Not looking forward to lugging all my suitcases around, but oh well.  And now I am quite sick.  My throat is large and inflamed, the constant sickly-sweet acidic syrup that drips down the back making sleep difficult.  Sneezing is better than post-nasal drip, in my opinion, but here we are.  There could be several reasons for this illness--not enough (or regularly-enough-timed) sleep; finally having finished my GRE exam and preparations for it (hence the end of adrenaline); even ill-disciplined sugar consumption (a particular evil to my body).  It could be that I put my coat on too late in the heavily air-conditioned Ikea despite having just come inside from sweating out in the late September humidity (in my car, no less--and I refuse to use air-conditioning; I use the windows instead).  But mostly it's just obnoxious and unfortunate.  Flying is not the time to get sick.  Travelling to another country is not the time to get sick.  Travelling for around 12 hours is not the time to get sick!!!  But the best part is, I'm supposed to be making new friends, getting settled, and attending Orientation and Matriculation activities, and buying necessities for these.  Fun.  I also was trying to keep luggage weight down, but with the addition of lots of cold meds, that's not going to be possible anymore.  On the plus side, if I add a small additional checked bag, I can bring my neti pot!  Hooray!  Worked for maybe the first time for me today.

This is just a grumpy post.  I feel like it's better than writing as a Facebook status: 'Two rules. Number 1: Don't get sick while travelling.  Number 2: I am always sick'.  In the off-chance that sharing this with the Internet will alleviate my symptoms, I'm doing it.  I can't think what else to do, since I've been on the kombucha, medicinal cold teas, cold meds, Airborne, saline-related things, and meditation for two days!  So, here you go Internet.  I'm sharing my germs, in a caring way, in the hope that you'll just take them all away from me.

Here's to travelling.  I'll let you know when I get there!  I just hope I don't spend the next 3 days in bed afterward.

Hip, hip!!!

love always,
Miranda
